Stephen Hubbard, a 74-year-old retired teacher from Michigan, has been released from Russian custody. His release follows a high-profile meeting between US Special Envoy to the Middle East and Special Envoy for Peace Missions Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on October 21, 2026. Hubbard had been detained in eastern Ukraine in 2022 and sentenced to nearly seven years in prison for alleged mercenary activities.
