Wendy’s Franchisee Meritage Hospitality Group Files for Bankruptcy, Store Closures Mount
Meritage Hospitality Group, one of the largest Wendy’s franchisees in the United States, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on September 17, 2026. This filing followed the closure of approximately 60 underperforming restaurants in late 2025 and has since led to further closures, with more anticipated. The bankruptcy proceedings highlight a contentious relationship with The Wendy’s Company, which moved to terminate Meritage’s franchise agreements just before the filing.
